The fabulous La Mirada Film Festival returns to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in April 2011 in Melbourne, Australia, presenting the best and most exciting new Spanish and Latin American films of the last twelve months plus a breathtaking selection of Spanish film classics selected by some of the world’s finest filmmakers.

With legendary Spanish cinema auteur Pedro Almodóvar as its patron, La Mirada is unlike any other film festival. Each year its unique approach to programming includes Almodóvar Presents, a classics section curated by Almodóvar, himself plus a program of classics selected by three international cinema luminaries.

La Mirada is delighted to announce the 2011 guest curators will be US Academy Award winning Best Director Ang Lee (Eat Drink Man Woman, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain), England’s Ken Loach (The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Bread and Roses) and Mexico’s Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) who will each share their favourite films from Spanish and Latin American filmmakers, allowing audiences to see Spanish language cinema through the eyes of great artists. These selected films will be surprise screenings for the audience, not revealed until the credits start to roll. Previous La Mirada guest curators have included Martin Scorsese, Stephen Daldry, Woody Allen, Penelope Cruz and Paul Auster.

La Mirada’s eclectic 2011 program will include new releases, classics, documentaries, and the deliciously indulgent Spanish Cuisine and Film returning with a feast of authentic Spanish dishes and premium Spanish wines.
